The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It is an everyday part of the school calendar and has been since 2008.
NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year, in the second full week in May.
NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas (or ‘domains’) of:
- Reading
- Writing
- Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
- Numeracy.
NAPLAN tests skills in literacy and numeracy that are developed over time, through the school curriculum.

Thirty Caboolture East students participated in the Caboolture ANZAC Day march on Monday 25th April. The children marched with military precision and did a wonderful job of representing their school and acknowledging the contributions and sacrafices of diggers past and present. The children behaved in a very repsectful and mature manner and were a credit to our school. An incredible 30 children marched as part of our school contingent; in addition there were Caboolture East students who attended with their families to watch and support the Anzac march.
Thank you for your efforts boys and girls and for your dedication to Caboolture East and your school spirit. Thank you to all the mums, dads and family members who supported the children in the march. We at school are all very proud of you. Thank you to Mrs Macmahon, Mr & Mrs Mills, Mr Tufuga, Mrs Hall, Mrs Hills and Mrs Morris for their assistance at the march. We truly appreciate your effort and dedication.

NAPLAN is a valuable tool for governments, schools and parents to understand and improve the literacy and numeracy outcomes of Australian students.
NAPLAN provides parents with a report on how well their child is performing in literacy and numeracy against the national average, and schools and teachers use NAPLAN data to improve teaching and learning in the classroom.
NAPLAN is not a pass/fail test. It is one of a number of important tools used by teachers to measure student progress.
NAPLAN tests skills in literacy and numeracy that are developed over time, through the school curriculum. It is not a test students can ‘prepare’ for. As a parent or carer of a student participating in NAPLAN, you can best help your child before the tests by making them feel comfortable about the nature and purpose of the tests. You can reassure your child that the tests will contain questions similar to those that they have completed in their regular classroom learning and assessment. You can also reassure them that the assessments will give them an opportunity to show what they have learned in class.
Special provisions are available to students with disability to access the tests. Special provisions that are available depend on a range of factors, including a school’s ability to provide them. Please click on the link or contact your child’s school for more information. |

All students who participate in the NAPLAN tests will get an individual report of their results. NAPLAN individual Student Reports provide information about what students know and have achieved in the areas of Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy. They also provide information on how students have performed in relation to other students in the same year group, and against the national average (over one million students participate in NAPLAN tests each year) and the National Minimum Standards. These student reports are distributed securely and confidentiality of the information is ensured.
